SENTIMENTAL FOOL, I REMEMBER YOU

I have never quite figured out why we writers come up with some of the stuff we come up with (I love the word ‘stuff’) or when it dawns on us to come up with it. Maybe it is just the way our brains work.

It’s either feast or famine, I guess. Although I write all the time, some of it never gets put on my site here, mostly because I don’t really know how to classify it … not that everything needs to be classified.

So, here is something that jumped into my head I couldn’t let go of … it’s why I am posting it. I had a tune in mind for song purposes, but it just might be another kind of poetry or whatever else it may be classified as … you can decide for yourself.

As long as it appeals to you, makes you feel something or engages thought, that is all I am after … to make you think.

Hope you like it.

I Remember You

I’ve been called a sentimental fool
And wear my heart for all to see
But there are things I cannot change
It’s just a part of me

I’ve led a simple life
Loved everything around
Remembered where I came from
Kept my feet solid on the ground

So, tonight when I think of you
And rest my weary head
Loneliness will come rushing back
From the emptiness of my bed

And I’ll remember you

I’ll remember the happiness we shared
I’ll remember you
Though it only lasted for a while
I’ll remember you
Even though you’re no longer there

We’ve gone down our separate roads
I just wanted you to know
I’ll remember you

Life ain’t always easy
No one said it would ever be
I just hope somewhere deep down inside
You’ll still remember me

Because, I’ll remember you
I’ll remember your smile
I’ll remember you
Though it only lasted for a while
I’ll remember you
And that loving look in your eyes

I’ll remember you

(Pause)

Life ain’t always easy
No one said it would ever be
I just hope somewhere deep down inside
You’ll still remember me

(Pause)

Call me a sentimental fool
My heart sitting on my sleeve
There are things I cannot change
You’re just a part of me

And, I remember you
